Summative Assessment: Creating a Scale Drawing of a room

If you can't see the post below, open up the following link for a word document.
This is due, Wednesday, May 7th.
Good Luck.

Summative Assessment:  Creating a Scale Drawing of a room

Today, you will be applying your knowledge from working with scale drawings to create a floor plan for a room in your house
Guidelines
Draft: Draw a rough sketch of the room you are going to draw.
Take measurements:  Take measurements of the perimeter of the room.  Measure the walls from corner to corner.  Include location of door and windows.  Use the table provided to record measurements and include in your rough sketch. Always double check the measurements.
Furniture – Identify and measure the furniture or pick out of a catalogue: Decide what furniture you want to include in the room you are drawing.  Record the actual measurements on the given table.
Determine scale and calculate scale drawing lengths and widths:  Determine your own scale. The calculations of the scale drawing lengths, widths are to be included. You must use 1in = 24 in(2ft) or 1 in = 36 in (3ft).
Scale Drawing:  Using a ruler and referring back to the calculated scale length, draw the scale drawing including the doors, windows and furniture.
Measurements                     Scale:  _________________

Example:  My wall measures 120 inches; I am using the scale 1 in = 24 in.
To find scale length…5.  My wall will measure 5 inches in the drawing.

Initial Sketch:  Use this space to sketch the room perimeter, draw out your ideas and play with the placement of the furniture.

Text Box: Lesson Summary:
Scale Drawing Process:
1. Measure lengths and widths carefully with a ruler or tape measure. Record in an organized table.
2. Calculate the scale drawing lengths, widths and areas using what was learned in previous lessons.
3. Calculate the actual areas.
4. Begin by drawing the perimeter, windows and doorways.
5. Continue to draw the pieces of furniture making note of placement of objects (distance from nearest wall).
6. Check for reasonableness of measurements and calculations.

Drawing/ Model: Done to Scale
All measurements in the scale drawing/model match the calculated measurements.
Most measurements in the scale drawing/model match the calculated measurements.
Some measurements in the scale drawing/model match the calculated measurements.
No measurements in the scale drawing/model match the calculated measurements.
Drawing/Model: Quality of Presentation
Creative, neat and organized presentation with all of the required information. Significant effort is evident and drawing/model closely resembles the original.
Organized presentation with all of the required information. Overall appearance is good.  Effort is evident and drawing/model mostly resembles the original.
Presentation lacks some organization but includes most of the required information. Overall appearance could be improved. Effort is somewhat evident and drawing/model slightly resembles the original.
Presentation lacks some organization but includes most of the required information. Overall appearance could be improved. Effort is somewhat evident and drawing/model slightly resembles the original.
Understanding of Scale
Clearly and accurately explains how the scale factor was used to create the scale drawing/model. Explanation shows strong understanding of the concept of scale.
Explains how the scale factor was used to create the scale drawing/model but explanation is not completely clear and accurate. Explanation shows a good understanding of the concept of scale.
